For the images below I put a softer, blurred version of the image as a layer in Overlay mode on top of the original photo. To lower the contrast and mute the image I also added a layer of pure, light color on top of this and dialed down its opacity. There were a few other tweaks applied, but that was the basic starting point.

Softening some images in Photoshop
I had a little free time yesterday to revisit a few older landscape photos I hadn't processed, and applied some Photoshop techniques to them. The techniques mostly centered around different ways to lighten or soften the image.
For the images below I put a softer, blurred version of the image as a layer in Overlay mode on top of the original photo. To lower the contrast and mute the image I also added a layer of pure, light color on top of this and dialed down its opacity.
